Special Representative McAuliffe Travels to Panama to Promote Public-Private Partnerships

From July 18-20, Special Representative for Global Partnerships Dorothy McAuliffe traveled to Panama City to attend the Inter-American Development Bank’s Public-Private Partnership of the Americas Summit.  She participated in a panel titled How PPPs Can Boost Economic Recovery and met with representatives from some of the largest U.S.-based financial institutions with a strong presence in Central and South America.

Special Representative McAuliffe also met with local startup entrepreneurs and leaders from Panama’s City of Knowledge, known locally as Ciudad del Saber (CDB), a government-sponsored community of academic organizations, technology companies, and NGOs managed by the CDB foundation.  Special Representative McAuliffe toured CDB’s nearly 300-acre campus, a former U.S. Army base now home to an international community dedicated to business, academic, and scientific collaboration towards sustainable development.

At the Inter-American Bank PPP’s Summit, Special Representative McAuliffe joined the panel with Trinidad and Tobago Minister of Public Administration Allyson West and Brazil Special Secretary of the Investment Partnership Program Marcus Cavalcanti.  Public-private partnerships can have meaningful and lasting impacts to both local and national economies through increased capital investment and job creation.  Special Representative McAuliffe promoted the burgeoning opportunity for public-private partnerships to leverage public resources and build capacity in Central and South America.
