Deputy Secretary Verma’s Meeting with Mauritian Prime Minister Jugnauth

Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard Verma met with Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth in Port Louis today to discuss the expanding cooperation between Mauritius and the United States on several shared priorities including maritime security, as exemplified in the recent multinational maritime exercise, Cutlass Express. The Deputy Secretary praised Mauritius as a model for the region on economic development and emphasized the critical importance of our shared democratic values. The Deputy Secretary and Prime Minister then participated in the groundbreaking for a new $300 million U.S. embassy compound, which Deputy Secretary Verma emphasized demonstrates the importance that the United States ascribes to its growing bilateral relationship with Mauritius.
