Secretary Blinken’s Call with Algerian Foreign Minister Attaf

Secretary Blinken’s Call with Algerian Foreign Minister Attaf

The below is attributable to Spokesperson Matthew Miller:

Secretary Antony J. Blinken spoke today with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf to discuss the proposal on the table to achieve an enduring ceasefire in Gaza and secure the release of all hostages. He underscored that the proposal would allow a surge in humanitarian assistance, enable the return of displaced persons to areas throughout Gaza, and permit international reconstruction efforts to begin. Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Attaf also discussed means for continuing to support the Palestinian people through increased humanitarian assistance to Gaza, support for the Palestinian Authority, and a pathway to the creation of a Palestinian state with security guarantees for Israel. The Secretary and the Foreign Minister agreed on the importance of coordinating closely on bilateral objectives and exchanged views on international initiatives, including at the UN, to achieve a more peaceful, and stable Middle East region.
