Secretary Blinken’s Meeting with UNRWA Commissioner General Lazzarini

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) today in Amman, Jordan.  Secretary Blinken and Commissioner General Lazzarini emphasized the importance of UNRWA and its essential humanitarian mission in Gaza and the region. The Secretary acknowledged the critical work of UNRWA staff, who provide humanitarian relief under the most difficult conditions and conveyed his deep sorrow for the 72 UNRWA staff members who have been killed serving in Gaza since the crisis began. Secretary Blinken noted that the United States is UNRWA’s largest donor and remains committed to supporting its vital work.
