Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke with South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola today to congratulate him on his appointment as Foreign Minister. They discussed Russia’s war against Ukraine and the conflict in Gaza, including the need to reach an immediate ceasefire that secures the release of hostages. The Secretary and the Foreign Minister also reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.- South Africa partnership and cooperation on shared priorities such as Atlanta Phambili, which seeks to deepen social, economic, and educational ties to benefit both countries.
