Secretary Blinken’s Call with Brazilian Foreign Minister Vieira

The below is attributable to Spokesperson Matthew Miller:

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira on December 13.  Secretary Blinken thanked Brazil for its diplomatic leadership in seeking a peaceful resolution of the dispute between Venezuela and Guyana over the Essequibo region.  Secretary Blinken reaffirmed the United States’ position that the land boundary between Venezuela and Guyana should be respected unless—or until—the parties reach a new agreement—or a competent legal body decides otherwise.  The two also discussed support to the Multinational Security Support mission to Haiti.  Secretary Blinken urged Foreign Minister Vieira to join the United States in condemning the recent attacks by the Houthi rebel group in Yemen.
