Secretary Blinken to Travel to Texas and Mexico

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken will travel to Houston and Austin, Texas, as well as Mexico City, Mexico, from October 3-5, 2023.

In Houston, Secretary Blinken will visit Rice University to meet with former Secretary of State James Baker and participate in a conversation with Director of the Baker Institute for Public Policy Ambassador David Satterfield. The Secretary will also visit the Diplomatic Security Service Houston Field Office. In Austin, he will visit the University of Texas at Austin to participate in a moderated conversation hosted by the Clements Center for National Security.

The Secretary will then travel to Mexico to co-chair the 2023 U.S.-Mexico High-Level Security Dialogue. Secretary Blinken, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas, U.S. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland, and White House Homeland Security Advisor Dr. Liz Sherwood-Randall, along with other senior U.S. government officials, will join their Mexican counterparts for a bilateral dialogue and stakeholder engagements. Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs Brian A. Nichols, and Assistant Secretary for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Todd D. Robinson will join Secretary Blinken on this trip.

Through this dialogue, the United States and Mexico will discuss joint implementation of the U.S.-Mexico Bicentennial Framework for Security, Public Health, and Safe Communities.

While in Mexico, Secretary Blinken will also meet with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
