On July 15, 2024, Assistant Secretary for Energy Resources Geoffrey R. Pyatt traveled to Brazil for public and private sector discussions on energy security, energy transition, and cooperation on critical minerals.

In Brasilia, Assistant Secretary Pyatt is meeting with federal officials covering the full scope of Brazil’s energy landscape and potential, including the Ministries for Mines and Energy, External Affairs, and Commerce as well as the Secretariats for National Energy Transition and Planning; Geology, Mining, and Mineral Transformation; and Petroleum, National Gas, and Biofuels. Additionally, he is holding discussions with Brazil’s National Electric Energy Agency and the Geological Survey Agency.

On July 17, Assistant Secretary Pyatt will travel to Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. He will speak with state officials, the Federation of Industries of Minas Gerais, the Brazil Mining Association (IBRAM), AmCham Minas Gerais, and private sector leaders in critical minerals and energies.

During these meetings, Assistant Secretary Pyatt will reinforce our shared interests in energy security and energy transition, and will promote opportunities for further collaboration, particularly in decarbonization, clean energy, and critical mineral supply chains.
