The United States will provide Ukraine with one million dollars to protect its cultural heritage as part of an initiative announced during a meeting of G7 culture ministers. The funds will be used to support the Resilient Heritage project, which will help protect and restore Ukraine’s cultural assets that are under threat from the war.

Funding is provided through the U.S. Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Heritage Preservation, and the project will be overseen by the International Center for the Study of the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM).

“Preserving cultural heritage is not just a matter of preserving history – it is a step towards restoring our national identity and future. This support from the United States will help Ukraine protect its unique cultural heritage, which the war is trying to destroy,” said Victoria Korsunova, Director of the Kyiv office of the Ukraine Reconstruction Fund.

The 30-month project envisages close cooperation between government agencies, local authorities and cultural heritage experts. This will ensure coordination of efforts at all levels for the effective protection and restoration of sites of great importance to the history and culture of Ukraine.

“The Ukraine Reconstruction Fund welcomes such international support, which helps not only to restore material objects, but also to return Ukraine its cultural spirit. We see how important it is to preserve our heritage in order to pass it on to future generations,” added Victoria Korsunova.

This initiative is part of a broader U.S. support totaling $7 million for the protection and restoration of Ukraine’s cultural sites.
