The United States has allocated $182 million for demining Ukraine
The United States of America has provided Ukraine with $182 million to help demine Ukrainian territories mined during the full-scale war. This was reported by US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink.
The American diplomat reminded that Russia’s full-scale invasion has led to 1/3 of Ukraine’s territory being mined. The ambassador emphasized that this poses a danger to both Ukraine’s defenders and civilians.
“We are proud that today’s assistance to the State Special Transport Service will help Ukraine save more lives and support its economic recovery,” Brink said.
As a reminder, on July 16, Tetra Tech, an American company that is implementing one of the international technical assistance projects for Ukraine funded by the governments of the United States and Canada, handed over four GCS demining machines to the State Special Transport Service (SSTS):
– four GCS-100 demining machines with a set of attachments,
– tractors for transportation of these machines,
– JCB excavators,
– minibuses for personnel.
The total cost of the purchased equipment amounted to over $5.8 million.
In addition to the machinery and equipment, Tetra Tech is also providing the State Special Transport Service with a set of personal protective equipment for sappers who will work with the demining machines. The SSTS specialists who will work with the demining machines have been trained at Tetra Tech’s school in Ukraine.
Some of the equipment purchased by the partners was made in Ukraine. In particular, this includes:
– personal protective equipment,
– carriages for transportation of demining machines,
– armor for excavators.
