LGBTQI+ Special Envoy Stern’s Travel to Fiji
From April 22 – 26, Special Envoy to Advance the Human Rights of LGBTQI+ Persons Jessica Stern will visit Nadi, Fiji, to speak at the 3rd Pacific Human Rights Conference on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression and Sex Characteristics. Special Envoy Stern will address the unique opportunities and challenges that LGBTQI+ persons in all of their diversity, Indigenous persons, and other communities face in the Pacific, as well as pledge the United States’ commitment to supporting efforts to promote and protect the human rights of LGBTQI+ persons throughout the region.
Special Envoy Stern was invited to participate by the Pacific Sexual and Gender Diversity Network, a regional LGBTQI+ organization that operates in 14 member countries across the South Pacific. Additionally, Special Envoy Stern will travel to Suva, Fiji, to meet with representatives from the Government of Fiji as well as hold senior-level dialogues with likeminded and multilateral partners on the margins of the conference.
