Expanding Burma Sanctions Authorities and Imposing Sanctions on Additional Jet Fuel Suppliers

Expanding Burma Sanctions Authorities and Imposing Sanctions on Additional Jet Fuel Suppliers

Today, the United States expanded the use of its Burma-related sanctions authorities to allow for sanctions to be imposed on any foreign individual or entity determined to be operating in the jet fuel sector of Burma’s economy.  This expands our ability to exert pressure on Burma’s military regime while further supporting the people of Burma.

The U.S. Government is also designating two individuals and three entities involved in the procurement and distribution of jet fuel to Burma’s military regime.

The United States will continue to seek to deprive the military regime of the resources that enable its oppression of the people of Burma.

The Department of the Treasury is taking this action pursuant to Executive Order 14014 “Blocking Property with Respect to the Situation in Burma.”  For more information about these designations, see the Department of the Treasury’s press release.
