Department of State Announces Professional Development Opportunity With Baker Institute for Public Policy at Rice University
Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken visited Rice University October 3, where he was introduced by former Secretary of State James A. Baker III. The Secretary joined Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy Director Ambassador David Satterfield for an in-depth conversation about foreign policy and U.S. national security strategy.
Through its Modernization Agenda, the State Department is striving to increase learning opportunities and partnerships with academia, the private sector, and civil society related to six critical mission areas, including climate. To further this goal, the Department is announcing a professional development detail by a senior State Department officer to the Baker Institute Center for Energy Studies.
This exchange opportunity is intended to further inform foreign policy with world-class, interdisciplinary research on clean energy and share multi-faceted foreign policy experience with Rice students. It will also further recruitment efforts to assure the Department’s workforce reflects and represents America, where diversity and inclusion make us stronger, smarter, more creative, and more innovative.
The assignment process for the detail will begin in 2024 and will be an annually recurring position.
