Platform Engineering – 91% of Organizations Have Adopted an Internal Developer Platform but Face Operational Challenges: DuploCloud Report
SAN JOSE, Calif., May 2, 2023 (Newswire.com) - Over 90% of organizations either already have an Internal Developer Platform (IDP) in place (52%) or plan to implement one in the next five years as developers see this as a necessary aspect of cloud-native development. DuploCloud, the industry pioneer for DevOps automation and compliance, surveyed over 500 IT professionals across the US in various fields, including data scientists, AI/ML architects, IT solutions and services providers, in its latest "Platform Engineering Survey". The report assesses the state of DevOps workflows and technology adoption across US organizations, the benefits and the challenges that IT leaders face, as well as shared best practices on approach, strategy and more.
Key findings from the study include:
- Cloud is the future: 31% work on multi-cloud infrastructure, only 8% are on-prem; all others are in multi, public, hybrid clouds, or currently migrating.
- Burnout is rising: 34.2% say it's the #1 issue their team faces, typically caused by internal structural problems, heavy workloads, inefficient processes, and allocation of resources.
- Current DevOps models aren't working for many organizations, and those that shift to platform engineering prefer it more: 33.6% prefer working in the platform engineering model (Dev/DevOps teams and a platform engineering team).
- Employees want to try platform engineering: 50% said they would feel less stressed and more satisfied if their organization shifted to a platform engineering model.
"We are seeing a major shift towards platform engineering as organizations look for ways to reduce operational stress and improve DevOps workflows," said Venkat Thiruvengadam, CEO and Founder of DuploCloud. "With over 90% of organizations either already having an internal developer platform or planning to implement one in the next five years, it's clear that this is a trend that isn't slowing down anytime soon. Organizations need to break free from legacy systems and embrace platform engineering as the best way to address the top challenges they face in developing and deploying applications effectively today."
Platform engineering is the future for DevOps, and organizations that have transitioned by working with companies like DuploCloud are already seeing benefits. To download the "Platform Engineering Survey," visit https://lp.duplocloud.com/guide/platform-engineering-devops.
