Donald Trump sues CNN for defamation – BBC News

Former US President Donald Trump is suing the broadcaster CNN for defamation in a federal court in the US state of Florida.

His lawyers have filed paperwork seeking $475 million in punitive damages, claiming the network carried out a ‘campaign of libel and slander’ against him.

The libel lawsuit says the network’s use of the phrase “The Big Lie” – to describe Mr Trump’s refusal to accept the 2020 election result – is intended to link him to the Nazis and their use of propaganda.

CNN has not commented.
