Fifth Meeting of the Extended Deterrence Strategy and Consultation Group

The United States and Republic of Korea (ROK) will hold the fifth meeting of the Extended Deterrence Strategy and Consultation Group on September 4, 2024, at the Department of State.  This meeting provides an important forum for comprehensive discussions on strategic policy issues on the Korean Peninsula and in the Indo-Pacific impacting the Alliance and extended deterrence.  The meeting will include a session open to the press, at which remarks will be delivered by ROK First Vice Minister for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kim Hong Kyun, ROK Deputy Minister of National Defense Policy Cho Chang Lae, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Bonnie D. Jenkins, and Acting Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Cara Abercrombie.

The press session of the event will be held at the Dean Acheson Auditorium at the Department of State (enter through the 23rd Street entrance) on Wednesday, September 4th, at 3:00 p.m.  Media representatives wishing to attend the session must RSVP by email to [email protected] with your driver’s license or passport information and outlet name by Friday, August 30th.  Pre-set time for cameras is 2:15 p.m. from the 23rd Street entrance.  Final access time for writers and stills is 2:30 p.m. from the 23rd Street entrance.
