Lithuania allocates 5 million euros to Ukraine to rebuild schools and kindergartens
The Lithuanian government has approved the allocation of 5 million euros for Ukraine, which will be used to restore schools and kindergartens damaged by Russian aggression, as well as to build shelters in educational institutions.
This was announced on Wednesday, May 29, by the Lithuanian government.
The funds will be transferred to an account opened by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine at the National Bank. In addition to the restoration of educational institutions, the money will be used to purchase educational materials and computer equipment, as well as to modernize research and innovation infrastructure.
“In the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine, we must help Ukrainians keep their hope for the future. A key factor for this is the ability to educate the younger generation even in wartime, ensuring that children are educated despite the constant risk of air strikes,” said Gintare Skeyste, Minister of Finance of Lithuania.
The Lithuanian government also noted that, according to the World Bank, Ukraine’s losses from Russian aggression amount to 450 billion euros.
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Lithuania has provided Kyiv with financial assistance equal to 1.5% of its own GDP.
