Under Secretary Fernandez’s Travel to Florida

Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Jose W. Fernandez will travel to Miami, Florida, May 2, 2024, to participate in the annual Chiefs of Mission Conference hosted by the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM). Under Secretary Fernandez will address senior level diplomats from the Western Hemisphere and senior leadership from the National Security Council, Departments of State and Defense, and relevant U.S. government agencies to discuss economic security challenges as well as opportunities throughout the Americas. While in Miami, Under Secretary Fernandez will also meet with the private sector to discuss promoting economic growth in the region through programs like the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity (Americas Partnership). The Americas Partnership – a new regional framework to deepen economic integration and cooperation in our hemisphere brings together 12 partner countries to advance regional competitiveness, resilience, shared prosperity, and inclusive and sustainable investment. The United States recognizes that a stronger economic partnership is fundamental to overcoming national security challenges – economic security, climate change, and irregular migration – and deliver on the President’s affirmative agenda for a more prosperous, democratic, and secure region.
