Marking Two Years of Vladimir Kara-Murza’s Unjust Detention

Two years ago, Russian officials detained Vladimir Kara-Murza on spurious and politically motivated grounds, eventually charging him for speaking out against the Russian government’s war against Ukraine. His unjust conviction, egregious 25-year sentence, and continued imprisonment demonstrate the Kremlin’s determination to silence dissent, punish critics, and suppress fundamental freedoms. A tireless advocate for political prisoners, human rights, and democracy in Russia, Mr. Kara-Murza survived two near-fatal poisonings in 2015 and 2017. He continues to show dedication to the principles of democracy, freedom of speech, and the rule of law in a country where the government does all it can to stifle them. We stand in solidarity with Mr. Kara-Murza and his family at this difficult time, and renew our call for his release, as well as the release of all unjustly detained political prisoners in Russia.
