It is evidently clear and glaring at this critical moment in the history of Nigeria that more leaders in the mould of the Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi are needed to steer Nigeria’s troubled ship to a safe harbour.
This is the submission of the President, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Alhaji Abdul Waheed Odusile when he met Ooni Ogunwusi recently.
Odusile who stated this in Ile Ife when he led NUJ zone B leaders on a courtesy visit to the Ooni in his palace, declared that there is the need for Oba Ogunwusi to extend his peace initiative beyond traditional Institution but all leaders of the Yoruba nation in particular and the nation in general.
According to the NUJ President, Nigeria still need more peace loving leaders like Ooni Ogunwusi to steer the nation’s troubled ship to a safe harbour.
While emphazising that the Ooni Ogunwusi’s efforts at uniting traditional rulers in the Yorubaland and the country at large is already yielding positive results, Alhaji Odusile declared that the NUJ will be willing to support such peaceful initiative.
The NUJ President while extolling Ooni Ogunwusi leadership style lauded the Ooni’s Ooni youth and women empowerment initiatives, which he said was a practical approach towards keeping youth and women in his domain away from vices.
The NUJ President noted that having armies of unemployed youth and women on streets portend great dangers for the country adding that the time has come for all tiers of government in the country to come up with well planned initiatives that should be sustained to effectively rescue the country from the disaster hovering over her head, with the increasing number of youth and women roaming streets in search of job.
Alhaji Odusile however informed the Ooni of a Public Lecture being planned to mark the 62nd anniversary of the NUJ alongside 92nd birthday of former president, Alhaji Shehu Shagari scheduled for the 27th of April, this year in Abuja where Ooni Ogunwusi is being expected as the Royal Father of the day.
Ooni Ogunwusi while responding, thanked NUJ leadership for the visit and promised to personally attend the event.
On the entourage of the NUJ President to Ile Ife were the Zone B VP and Secretary, Comrades Cosmas Olalekan Oni and Afolabi Lawal, Chairmen and Secretaries of Lagos, Osun, Ondo, Oyo and Ekiti councils of the NUJ.
