Mimiko says “No room for opposition in Ondo State”
Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko has stated that there would be “no space” for the opposition party to take over control of government from his administration less than a year to the expiration of his tenure.
Mr. Mimiko made these remarks during a public function last weekend in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
During these remarks Mr. Mimiko noted that the opposition in the State faced an uphill battle to convince Ondo residents to vote against the PDP in the upcoming elections.
“However, they got a lot of work to do and has an uphill task to debase the people and campaign against us [the PDP] that our policies and programs could no longer affect and impact the lives of the people,” he said.
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has slated November 26 of this year to hold gubernatorial elections in Ondo State.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the State, Segun Agbaje, also confirmed this to one of our reporters in Akure, noting that INEC would be awaiting further directives from its headquarters in Abuja.
Mr. Mimiko also stated that “all these [opposition] campaigns would not get them to win the election because we in the PDP stand very firm on a solid ground which is the programmatic impact of the trajectory of our development in the State.”
Mr. Mimiko however added that the PDP, which has been polarized from internal warring factions laying claims to its leadership, has now commenced mobilization and support for its would be candidate ahead of the poll in the State.
